Advantages

  1. Supplemental poverty measure or SPM takes into accounts various government schemes made to assist low income families which are otherwise not covered under official poverty measure.
  2. Includes tax payments and work payments in calculation of income.
  3. Is more efficient and resilient as geographical differences in cost of living are accounted.

Disadvantages

  1. Complex statistical meausre which takes immense calculation
  2. Not easy to interpret as it may have human biasedness errors.
