A chemist wishes to mix a solution that is 6% acid. She has on hand 14 liters of a 2% acid solution and wishes to add some 10

Liters of 2% acid solution = 14 liters

Liters of Pure acid in this solution = 2% of 14 liters = 0.28 liters

Liter of 10% acid solution = x liters

Liters of Pure acid in this solution = 10% of x liters = 0.1x liters

Total solution = 14+ x liters

Total Pure acid = 0.28 + 0.1x liters

As percentage of acid in the solution should be 6%.

\Rightarrow \frac{0.28+x}{14+x} \times 100 = 6

\Rightarrow \frac{0.28+x}{14+x} = \frac{6}{100}

\Rightarrow 28+100x = 84 + 6x

\Rightarrow 94x = 56

\Rightarrow x = \frac{56}{94} = 0.5957

Hence chemist should add 0.5957 liters of 10% acid solution.
