Question

A convex lens (f = 13.9.cm) is placed 10.0 cm in front of a plane mirror. A matchstick is placed x = 29.3.cm in front of theAnswers I've tried and have been wrong:

Answer #1

(a)

use thin lens equation

1/di = 1/f - 1/x

1/di = 1/13.9 - 1/29.3

di = 26.446 cm

image distance from mirror = 16.446 cm

this becomes object distance at 16.446 - 10 = 6.446

so,

now object is to the right of lens, so object distance is negative

so,

1/13.9 = -1/6.446 + 1/di

di = 4.4037 cm

---------------------------------------------

(b)

magnification

m = ( 26.446 / 29.3) ( 4.4037 / - 6.446)

m = - 0.6166

(c) image is real, inverted
