Question

#1 Acetone is to be removed from a nitrogen stream in a process. In the first step of the process, the gas is compressed from 1 atm to 4 atm. In the second step, the gas is cooled at constant pressure to a temperature of 5°C in a condenser. Some of the acetone condenses to liquid in the condenser and the remaining gas leaves the condenser saturated with acetone. The gas fed to the process enters at 40°C and 85% relative saturation at a rate of 25 SCMM. a) What is the mole fraction of acetone in the gas leaving the condenser? b) What is the molar flow rate of liquid acetone leaving the condenser in mol/min

Answer #1

DEAR STUDENT, ANSWER MAY CHANGE SLIGHTLY DUE TO DIFFERENT VALUES OF AANTOINE CONSTANT IN DIFFERENT SOURCES.KIBDLY ALSO CONSIDER THAT SOME SOURCES HAVE DIFFERENT DEFINITION OF SCMM. IF THAT IS THE CASE, I SHALL DEFINITELY UPLOAD REVISED SOLUTION.

DEAR STUDENT, IF YOU HAVE ANY QUERY KINDLY ASK ME. I SHALL DEFINITELY HELP IN RESOLVING YOUR QUERY. PLEASE ASK ME. THANK YOU

A gas stream contains 18.0 mole% hexane and the remainder nitrogen. The stream flows to a condenser, where its temperature is reduced and some of the hexane is liquefied. The hexane mole fraction in the gas stream leaving the condenser is 0.0500. Liquid hexane condensate is recovered at a rate of 1.50 L/min. (a) What is the flow rate of the gas stream leaving the condenser in mol/min? (Hint : First calculate the molar flow rate of the condensate and...

Question: Solids soaked with liquid hexane are dried by being contacted with nitrogen at an elevated temperature. The gas stream leaving the dryer is at 80°C, 1 atm absolute and 50% relative saturation. (a) One of several possibilities for recovering the hexane from the gas is to send the stream to a cooling condenser. The gas stream leaving the condenser would contain 5.00 moles% of hexane, and hexane condensate would be recovered at a rate of 1.50 kmol/min. The condenser...

The gas stream entering the condenser has a pressure of 1.00 atm, flows at a rate of 10.0 mole/s and, at 60°C, is well above the saturation temperature (42.4°C). As a result of the cooling, 1.75 mole/s of liquid ethanol (Tbp = 78.5°C) leaves the...

04: DALTON LAW Nitrogen from a cylinder is bubbled through liquid acetone at 1.1 bar and stream 60 °C at the rate of 2 x 10-4 m3/min. The nitrogen saturated with acetone vapor leaves at 1.01325 bar, 35 °C at the rate of 3.83 x 10-4 m3/min. What is the partial pressure of acetone? Solubility of nitrogen in liquid acetone is negligible. Nitrogen saturated with acetone Nitrogen

Terephthalic acid (TPA) is synthesized from -xylene (PX) in the process C8H10 +302 – C8H6O4 +2H2O shown below. A fresh feed of pure liquid PX combines with a recycle stream containing PX and a solution (S) of a catalyst (a cobalt salt) in a solvent (methanol). The combined stream, which contains S and PX in a 3:1 mass ratio, is fed to a reactor in which 90% of the PX is converted to TPA. A stream of air at 25...
