What elements were created in the big bang? During what time period in the early universe did nucleosynthesis occur? Why just during this period? Describe qualitatively why the hot big bang model predicts that the universe should contain ∼26% by mass helium. Why is the present deuterium abundance sensitive to the value of Ω?

Answer #1

Some light elements like hydrogen, deuterium, helium, lithium and some amounts of beryllium were formed in the big bang theory. Basically, these were produced due to the fusion reactions that took place due to very high temperatures.

Nucleosynthesis occured 13.8 billion years ago just after the big bang theory. It happened at that period only as at that time only the universe was getting expanded which was then cooled down and resulted into the formation of subatomic particles which later turned out to be atoms.

The hot big bang theory model predicts that the universe should contain around 26% by mass helium as it is the lightest gas produced by the big bang explosion and that too in very large quantity.

Since, the temperature is weakly dependent on the omega and at the time of the big bang, the temperature was very high so deuterium could not show much sensitivity but now the temperature is very low as compare to the big bang temperature hence deuterium is more sensitive to omega.

The "classic" Big Bang theory explains that the Universe was originally very hot and very dense and that this leads to some clear predictions that have been experimentally verified. However, there were some observed properties of the Universe that the classic Big Bang theory couldn't explain. Explaining these additional properties of the Universe required the development of the model of cosmic inflation in the 1980s, which has some additional predictions we are attempting to verify with experiments today. What properties of...

9/ the 2011 Nobel Prize in Physics was awarded to 3 men who study white dwarf supernova explosions, which are known as Type la supernovae. The following problem is designed to give you a feel for what they did, and the sorts of apparent brightnesses and distances they were working with. A typical Type la supernova explosion has a luminosity of 1.72 x 10^36 W. If we observe such a supernova to have an apparent brightness of 1.25 x 10^-17...

Background: Ancient lycophytes were the dominant plants on Earth during the Carboniferous Period, which is named for the coal that formed from those ancient plants that lived 300 million years ago. As humans use fossil fuels such as coal and gas, we release carbon in the form of carbon dioxide (CO2) into the air. Because CO2 traps heat near the surface of the earth, it is known as a greenhouse gas and contributes to climate change. However, carbon is also...

    10. Write a one-page summary of the attached paper? INTRODUCTION Many problems can develop in activated sludge operation that adversely affect effluent quality with origins in the engineering, hydraulic and microbiological components of the process. The real "heart" of the activated sludge system is the development and maintenance of a mixed microbial culture (activated sludge) that treats wastewater and which can be managed. One definition of a wastewater treatment plant operator is a "bug farmer", one who controls the aeration...
