Question

Hello,

I'm having some trouble with this physics question, any help is appreciated thanks!

question 25a A beam of monochromatic light passes from air to water (n-1.33) to glass (n The two interfaces are parallel to each other, and the angle of incidence in air is 26 degrees, and that in the glass is 18 degrees. What is the index of refraction of the glass? Keep 2digits after decimal point. Your answer should be formatted like: 0.00

Answer #1

Snell's law : ni sin(i) =nr sin(r)

From air to water:

1 sin26 = (1.33) sin(r)

sin(r) = 19.24 deg

now from water to glass.

(1.33) sin(19.24) = n sin(18)

n = 1.42

    Partner: Date Name 11 Snell's Law Introduction When light passes from one material to another it is always bent away from its original path. This process is known as refraction and the change in direction depends on the change in optical density (or refractive index) of the two materials. A larger change in refractive index results in a larger change in angle between incoming and outgoing light beams. A light beam bends closer to the normal in the material with...
