Answer #2

An object has kinetic energy of 275 J and a momentum of magnitude 25.0 kg.m/s. Find the speed and mass of the object.

K = p2/2m

275 = (25)2/2m

m = 625/2/275 = 1.14 kg

K =

Answer #3

0.03 kg bullet fired vertically at 200 m/s into a 0.15kg baseball that is initially at restHow high does the combination rise after the collision, assuming the bullet embeds itself in the ball?

0.03 . 200 = 0.18 . V

V = 33.33 m/s

H = V^2 / 2 . g = 57.7 m

Answer #4

A baseball outfielder throws a baseball of mass 0.15 kg at a speed of 40 m/s and initial angle of 30 degree with horizontal. What is the kinetic energy of the baseball at the highest point of the trajectory?

The horizontal component of speed
= 40 m/s * cos(30)
=40 cos(30) m/s
mass
=0.15 kg
Since at the highest point, vertical velocity=0, and horizontal velocity is unchanged (ignore air resistance), so
K.E.=mv^2/2=0.15*(40cos(30))^2/2
=0.15*1600*3/4/2
=90 joules
