Let the boat angle with the upstream be theta..

Then to travel across the component of the boat velocity against the river current must be equal to the river velocity westwards..

so boat velocity against the current=1.85*cos(theta)

and the river velocity=1.2 m/s

equating both we get cos(theta)=1.2/1.85

=>theta=49.56 degrees with the upstream direction
