Mexican Americans are Americans of full or partial Mexican descent.US is home to the second largest Mexican community in the world,second only to Mexico itself.Mexican American families of indigenous heritage have been in the country for at least 15000 years and Mexican American history span over 400years. The majority of them come from Hispanophone population , eventually adopted English as their first language.Approximately 10% of the Mexican American population are descended from early colonial settlers who became US citizens in 1848 via the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo which ended the Mexican American war

Puerto Ricans ,who were born in Puerto Rico are American citizens ,as if they were born in US proper.In 1917 ,US Congress passed the Jones shafroth Act , which grant US citizenship to any one born in Puerto Rico island.As US citizens,they too can travel to US main land with out passport and visa.
