Materialized view

Materialized view in Oracle are special views that has a physical representation. It contains the result of a query. It contains data physically and are updated periodically. When a user query materialized view it gives data directly from the Materialized view and not from the table.

Advantages:

• With MV the SELECT query perform fast. Complex joins are faster than the normal view.
• It is useful for summarizing, pre-computing, replication and distributing data.
• MVs are transparent to end user, it can be added/dropped without invalidating coded SQL.
• Indexes can be created on MVs column.

Disadvantage:

• MVs are expensive both in terms of performance and storage.
