Answer #1

The acceleration of the two-mass system which will be given as :

m1 mi g mi2 m2 g

From free body diagram of above figure, we have

on horizontal x-axis,        T = m1 a

on vertical y-axis,            m2 g - T = m2 a

then,    m2 g - m1 a = m2 a

m2 g = m2 a + m1 a

m2 g = a (m1 + m2)

a = m2 g / (m1 + m2)

where, m1 = mass of block 1 = 15 kg

m2 = mass of block 2 = 25 kg

g = acceleration due to gravity = 9.8 m/s2

a = (25 kg) (9.8 m/s2) / [(15 kg) + (25 kg)]

a = (245 kg.m/s2) / (40 kg)

a = 6.12 m/s2
