Question

calculate concentration

A metal plating company has been discharging plating waste that contains hexavalent chromium (Cr6+) into an on-site dry well for many years. The aquifer is 2.11 m thick.  The waste solution has a chromium concentration of 35 mg/L and the amount being discharged amounts to 3.45 m3/d. The groundwater velocity is 0.012 m/d.  What is the concentration of chromium in a private well located in the same aquifer at location x = 34.0 m and y = 6.23 m?  Assume that dispersivity is affected by scale effects and that transverse dispersivity is 10% of the DL; express your answer in mg/L.

During the investigation of a contaminated site, a large tank was used to store water pumped from a contaminated aquifer.  The tank, which had been placed downgradient of the area of contamination where the underlying aquifer was not contaminated, suddenly leaked all of the contents.  The water in the tank had a concentration of 23.4 mg/L of trichloroethane (TCA).  The tank was round with a diameter of 5 m. The spill was located under the tank and saturated the aquifer. ...

    4. A storage basin for aqueous Cadmium waste with a cadmium concentration of 32 mg/L has leaked into a nearby aquifer. A drinking water well is located 980 m downgradient from the leaking. To ensure the safety of the drinking-water supply, a monitoring well is drilled 4 between the drinking-water and the cadmium waste spill. The difference in hydraulic head between the drinking-water well and the monitoring well is 75 cm (with the head in the monitoring well higher). If...

    10. Write a one-page summary of the attached paper? INTRODUCTION Many problems can develop in activated sludge operation that adversely affect effluent quality with origins in the engineering, hydraulic and microbiological components of the process. The real "heart" of the activated sludge system is the development and maintenance of a mixed microbial culture (activated sludge) that treats wastewater and which can be managed. One definition of a wastewater treatment plant operator is a "bug farmer", one who controls the aeration...

explaim the mechanisms amd toxological effects if type 1 diabetes in this article Exposure to arsenic in drinking water is associated with increased prevalence of diabetes. We previously reported an association of diabetes and urinary concentration of dimethylarsinite (DMAS"), a toxic product of arsenic methylation by arsenic (+ 3 oxidation state) methyltransferase (AS3MT). Here we examine associations between AS3MT polymorphism, arsenic metabolism and diabetes. Fasting blood glucose, oral glucose tolerance and self-reported diagnoses were used to identify diabetic individuals. Inorganic...
