Question

PROJECTILE MOTION OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this lab is to study the properties of projectile motion. From the motion of a steel ball projected horizontally, the initial velocity of the ball ean be determined from the measured range. For a given initial velocity, the projectile range will be measured for various initial angles, and calculated by applying the theory for motion with constant acceleration BASIC PRINCIPLES: Projectile motion occurs when an object in a two-dimensional plane experiences motion only due to gravity. Kinematic equations can be used to describe the components of projectile motion. This allows us to analyze the motion. The x- and y-components of a projectiles motion are independent, connected only by time of flight, We use the general equations of motion: (1) where a0 2 ay t2 (2) where ayg y = yo + voy t + If 0°, and let xo-0 and yo h, it follows from ( 1 )and (2): and gx y2vo When the object hits the floor, the x and y positions are x -R and y - 0, and: 02o vo = R 2h
