1.) Roles of the melanocortin peptides and receptor proteins, can I get a few?
2. What groups of amino acids do glutamine and arginine each belong to?3. Circle or highlight the amino acid at position 156 on this structure of the human version of this protein - which amino acid is it and are you therefore like a baleen whale or a dolphin in this case?
As you asked multiple questions, so i am answering first two of them as HOMEWORKLIB RULES Q & A guidelines.
1. Roles of the melanocortin peptides and receptor proteins -
Melanocortin receptors are G-protein-coupled receptors which are activated by pro-opiomelanocortin (POMC) gene
(il iclude MSH and ACTH peptides).
Melanocortin peptides binds on theses receptors and have a important role in growth regulation and pigmentation.
MSH (melamocyte - stimulating hormonr\e)acts on melanocyte cells thus it is responsible for pigmentation.
ACTH (AdrenocorticTrophic Hormone) is important peptide releases from pitutary gland and act on adrenal gland.
lt has important role in growth regulation.
2.
Glutamine - Polar Amino acid
Arginine - Charged Amino acid
