Melanocortin receptors are G-protein-coupled receptors which are activated by  pro-opiomelanocortin (POMC) gene

(il iclude MSH and ACTH peptides).

Melanocortin peptides binds on theses receptors and have a important role in growth regulation and pigmentation.

MSH (melamocyte - stimulating hormonr\e)acts on melanocyte cells thus it is responsible for pigmentation.

ACTH (AdrenocorticTrophic Hormone) is important peptide releases from pitutary gland and act on adrenal gland.

lt has important role in growth regulation.
