Question

Problem 1: For the truss under the following 3 loading conditions, determine the minimum cost of each truss based on the foll

Please do the following problem. You need to show your work to justify your answer. Having said that, a hint on the 1st two problems - you can do most of the work simply by analyzing the points, not necessarily a lot of math. However, on the last one, you must do a bit of math to get credit.

Answer #1

Solution) Costbof wooden stick =$100

Cost of cable wire =$10

As truss is made from wooden members and the point at which load is applied is made from cable to support it. Thus analysing the trusses we get

For truss A

No.of wooden members = 15

No of cable wires to support the load = 1

Thus total cost of the truss = 15 x $100 + 1 x $ 10 = $1500 + $10 =$1510

Now For truss B

No.of wooden members = 15

No of cable wires to support the load = 3

Thus total cost of the truss = 15 x $100 + 3 x $ 10 = $1500 + $30 =$1530

now for truss C

No.of wooden members = 15

No of cable wires to support the load = 2

Thus total cost of the truss = 15 x $100 + 2 x $ 10 = $1500 + $20 =$1520

So the truss A has minimum cost.
