2) a) dipole-dipole interaction basically occurs between the molecules having permanent dipoles. for example water. the molecular structure of water is simply a tetrahedral one. two arms contain H and other two contains lone pairs of oxygen. thus the dipole dipole interaction occurs between water molecules itself.

b) ion-dipole interaction occurs between the naked ion and the water molecule which is trying to stabilize the ion in the aqueous medium by providing a hydration sheath surrounding the cation and anion. thus ion-dipole occurs between molecules of Na+ (sodium ion) and water. and also within I- (iodide ion)and water.
