1) A chemotaxis experiment was performed with 100 micromolar of caffeine. The following data was obtained after performing the experiment.

Number of tetrahymena in media after 3 independent trials: 20, 18, 23

Number of tetrahymena in 100 micromolar caffeine after 3 independent trials: 35, 30, 25

Based on the results, 100 micromolar caffeine is a _____

Neither chemoattractant, nor chemorepellet as P > 0.05

Chemoattractant

Chemorepellent

Neither chemoattractant, nor chemorepellet as P < 0.05

2) A phagocytosis experiment was performed with Tetrahymena and india ink and the results were as follows:

Number of food vacuoles at 5 minutes observed in 7 different Tetrahymena cells: 5,7,5,6,4,2,6

Number of food vacuoles at 10 minutes observed in 7 different Tetrahymena cells: 7,9,6,8,6,7, 7

Based on the data provided, perform a 2-tailed t-test considering equal variance. Based on the results obtained, which of the following statements is correct?

There is a statistically significant increase in the number of food vacuoles at 10 minutes compared to 5 minutes because P < 0.05

There is a statistically significant increase in the number of food vacuoles at 10 minutes compared to 5 minutes because P > 0.05

There is not a statistically significant change in the number of food vacuoles at 10 minutes compared to 5 minutes because P < 0.05

There is not a statistically significant change in the number of food vacuoles at 10 minutes compared to 5 minutes because P > 0.05

3) A chemotaxis experiment was performed with 100 millimolar of caffeine. The following data was obtained after performing the experiment.

Number of tetrahymena in media after 3 independent trials: 20, 18, 23

Number of tetrahymena in 100 millimolar caffeine after 3 independent trials: 15, 17, 14

Based on the results, 100 millimolar caffeine is a _____

Neither chemoattractant, nor chemorepellet as P < 0.05

Chemorepellent

Neither chemoattractant, nor chemorepellet as P > 0.05

Chemoattractant

This is all the information we were given.

Answer #1

1) Based on the results, 100 micromolar caffeine is a chemoattractant.

This is because when the values are ploted it showed significant icrease from without caffeine to with caffeine.

2) There is a statistically significant increase in the number of food vacuoles at 10 minutes compared to 5 minutes because P > 0.05

3) Based on the results, 100 millimolar caffeine is a Chemorepellent

This is because when the values are ploted it showed significant decrease from without caffeine to with caffeine.

An experiment on memory was performed, in which 16 subjects were randomly assigned to one of two groups, called "Sentences" or "Intentional". Each subject was given a list of 50 words. Subjects in the "Sentences" group were told to form multiple sentences, each using at least two words from the list, and to keep forming sentences until all the words were used at least once. Subjects in the "Intentional" group were told to spend five minutes memorizing as many of...

Can you please explain in simple terms the methods of this experiment? I'm having difficulty visualizing and understanding what is being done. I have copied and pasted some of the text from the article. Thank you! Abstract : Obesity, high-fat diets, and subsequent type 2 diabetes (T2DM) are associated with cognitive impairment. Moreover, T2DM increases the risk of Alzheimer's disease (AD) and leads to abnormal elevation of brain beta-amyloid levels, one of the hallmarks of AD. The psychoactive alkaloid caffeine...

The laboratory performed a comparison study of LDL-c values in 40 participants (40 samples are split so are considered matched or pairs) using two different analyzers, the Abbott and the Roche. The Abbott is considered the gold standard method used in many facilities and the Roche is new and of interest due to faster turn-around time and economical factors. The purpose of the comparison study is to determine if there is a significant difference in results by the two methods...
