2) a. When you get a suntan, then ultraviolet radiation from the sunlight stimulates the melanocytes deep in the epidermis and secrete melanin. The accumulation of melanin, in turn, darkens the skin.

b. Melanin protects us from genetic damage caused by regular exposure to UV radiation. More suntan leads to more exposure one experience to this harmful radiation and cumulative effect leads to skin cancer.
