A statistics practitioner would like to conduct a survey to ask people their views on a proposed new shopping mall in their community. According to the latest census, there are 800 households in the community. The statistician has numbered each household (from 1 to 800), and she would like to randomly select 25 of these households to participate in the study. Use Excel to generate the sample.

Follow these steps in Excel-

1) Enter your 800 entries of the households in Column-1 of Excel which is labeled as Households

2) Then, go to the next column and label it as Random _Selection

3) In the first cell of the Random_Selection column, write "=rand()" and a random number will be populated there

4) Extend this to all the total 800 cells of the households

5) Now select all the cells in both columns and follow this path:

Sort & Filter -> Custom Sort -> Sort by -> Random_Selection

6) Select the Top 25 rows in the Households column and they are your samples
