Read Mt 17:40, Luke 8:26-39; 9:37-43; 11:24-26. Seizures are associated with a brain disorder known as epilepsy, and over 40 different disorders of the brains. In over 50% of cases, no obvious cause could be identified. In the bible people most likely suffering from seizures were considered to be possessed by demons. Describe the symptoms of epilepsy that would lead people to think that seizures were demonic in origin. Using your knowledge of neurophysiology, what do all these disorders have in common? In other words, what is the underlying cause of an epileptic seizure?

Epilepsy is a neurological disorder which is associated with seizures so it is also called sometimes called "seizure disorder," The seizures in the individuals can due to the factors like fever or low blood sugar levels and dur to surge in the brain electrical activity. The sympotoms due to these activities include an alteration in sensation, behavior, or consciousness. They may also have momentary loss of consciousness, staring spells, repetitive movements, or convulsions involving the entire body. These symptoms of the seizures are compared to the demons being possessed by the individuals.

There are no clear reasons behind the epileptic seizure but some of indications in the individual can be tremed as causes for seizures

1. Low levels of blood sugar

2. Fever (febrile seizures)

3. Congenital conditions

4. Head trauma

5. Genetic factors

6. Alzheimers disease

7. Stroke
