The ratio of speed in grass to the speed in mud is 1/0.5= 2

So if they hit the edge of the field at an angle of 30 degrees, and the angle they do end up marching at in the mud in order to stay in formation be theta,

1*sin(30)= 2*sin(theta)

So, theta= 14.47 degrees. So the angle they do end up marching at in the mud in order to stay in formation is 14.47 degrees.
