Answer #1

X ~ poisson (\lambda) = Poisson (5.9)

Here \lambda = 5.9

Poisson probability distribution is

P(X) = e-\lambda\lambdaX / X!

We have to calculate P( X < 5) = ?

P( X < 5) = P( X <= 4)

= P( X = 0) +P( X = 1) +P( X = 2) +P( X = 3) +P( X = 4)

= e-5.9 5.90 / 0! + e-5.9 5.91 / 1! + e-5.9 5.92 / 2! + e-5.9 5.93 / 3! + e-5.9 5.94 / 4!

= 0.2987
