You are invited to prepare a report of expertise on the treatment of a wastewater produced by an oil company. The wastewater was analyzed in advance. You are provided with the following values: Soluble COD = 15.300 kg/ m3 Soluble BOD = 13.83 kg/ m3 The Total COD of the effluent was 0.2588 kg/ m3 The treatment is performed in a reactor having a total volume of 500 m3. The first step of developing the secondary treatment is a batch technology. The volume of the simple batch is 150 m3 composed of 130 m3 of the wastewater and 20 m3 of inoculum. The wastewater does not contain biomass and contains only the Soluble COD The biomass of sludge at time ZERO of the batch is 2 kg/m3. The inoculum contained biomass/m3 but no soluble COD. 3)

Calculate the biomass concentration, which should be in the inoculum.

Answer #1

Given data is

COD=15.300Kg/m3

BOD=13.83Kg/m3

COD of the effluent was 0.2588Kg/m3

Volume=500m3

Squander water doesn't contain biomass

also, At time zero Biomass of slop of the group = 2 Kg/m3

Additionally given inoculum contains biomass

in this way Biomass fixation in inoculum = 2 kg/m3
