9) While designing for uniform wall thickness what are some radius considerations when forming a corner?
The walls of the part usually meet the base at an angle greater than 90° because of draft given to the part.
If the walls are joined making a sharp corner then the wall thickness will not be uniform at the corners.
The maximum thickness at the sharp corner is about 1.4 times the nominal wall thickness.
This will result in longer cooling time accompanied by sink marks and warping.
Sharp corners have increased stress concentration.
At the time of flow their is a turbulence created at the corner which causes the air entrapment and weakens the moulding.
The problem can be overcome by giving radius at the corners.

13. (a) The cylindrical walls of a vessel of outer radius R and wall thickness (t <<R) are made of an isotropic linear elastic material with modulus E and Poisson's ratio v. The end caps are rigid. If the vessel is empty (zero gage pressure), the vessel fits precisely (without any stress) inside a rigid frictionless well. A pressurized fuel is introduced in the vessel so that the internal gage pressure in the vessel is now P. For these conditions...

A C14500 hard copper pipe has an inner radius of 0.5 in. and a wall thickness of 0.125 in. If the fluid flowing through it changes the temperature of the pipe to 180°F, determine the thermal stress in the pipe. The pipe was fitted between the walls when the pipe was at 60°F. Also determine if Hooke's law is valid, if it is safe and the axial force the bar exerts on the walls. Assume the wall is rigid. 8...
