work and energy

mass of dynamics cart and frictionless sensor are 1.2 kg together

a mass of 200 g is attached to the end of the making the cart move from its initial rest

the bottom of the hanging mas is 80 cm away from the ground intially

What is the force that the sensor will detect? Then, when the mas hits the ground what will the work done by the force be on the dynamics cart?

Answer #1

for the hanging mass , force equation is given as

mg - T = ma

a = (mg - T)/m                                    Eq-1

For the Cart , Force equation is given as

T = Ma

T = M(mg - T)/m

T = Mmg/(M+ m) = (1.2 x 0.2 x 9.8) /(1.2 + 0.2) = 1.68 N

W = work done = T d = 1.68 x 0.80 = 1.344 J
