4. Use it or lose it hypothesis :

The use it or lose it hypothesis explains the occurrence of memory and cognitive deficits associated with aging. Recent studies provide evidences that reinforces the plasticity of the brain; the brain evolves with new experiences even in old age. If the brain is functioning at an optimal level, the chances of developing memory and cognitive deficits can be reduced. When the brain is idle, the memory paths and the cognitive traces are lost often resulting in dementia or Alzheimer's during the old age.
