Answer #1

A water bath is laboratory equipment made from a container filled with heated water. It is used to incubate samples in water at a constant temperature over a long period of time.  Water bath is a preferred heat source for heating flammable chemicals instead of an open flame to prevent ignition. As flammable liquid has high volatility. They can from vapour easily and vapors associated risk of ignition by flashback. Vapors from flammable liquids are denser than air and tend to sink to the floor level where they can spread over a large area. And if open flame is used they ignite. Thus for the safety water bath is used to heat the reaction mixture if that is flammable. Hence option 2 is correct.
