Question

Pipelines containing ethanol (ethyl alcohol in pipe A) and gasoline (pipe B) merge into a larger pipe to create a mixture as shown in the sketch below. If the velocity in pipe A is 0.4m/s and the velocity in pipe B is 0.3 m/s, determine:

a.The volume flow rate of the mixture in pipe C

b.The velocity at point C

c.The density of the mixture

d.The percentage of ethanol in the mixture

Answer #1

svi As per the law of mass conservation, S.V, A + P₂ V 2 Az = P V₂ A3 ethanol, 8, = 789 kg/m² gasoline & = 748 kg/m3. A 78970

Please note that the general densities are used for the calculations, if any other values were given they would have been used.
