Isotonic is a solution having the same osmotic pressure across a semipermeable membrane, it has equal concentration of solutes and water, there will be balanced condition, water flow across the membrane equally in both direction and the voulme of the cell doesnot change, the isotonic solution is mostly given to rehydrate, these solution have same concetration of solutes as cellular fluids as they have same concetration the cells do not shrink or enlarge but they maintain consistency of cellular size, the excess amount after the usage by the body the solution is expelled out by kidneys.
