The carbon shows a linear geometry is SP hybridised molecules. Eg. C2H2, CO2

The carbon shows a trigonal geometry is SP2 hybridised molecules. Eg. C2H4

Most of carbon compounds are SP3 hybridised and hence possess tetrahedral geometry. Eg. CH4.

Square planar is never observed in carbon compouds. These geometries are seen in transition metal compounds.
