Suggest how the experiment (determination of vitamin C) could be modified to reduce the size of the standard deviation. (4 marks)
The determination of Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) is performed through Iodometric titration using a whole fruit ( lemon or orange). By the means of titration, the iodine concentration can be found out. In the iodine concentration case, a difference in standard deviations is observed when the buret size is varied. There will be no difference in precision nor accuracy in the F and T tests if the samer sized burets are used. When the large and small burets are compared there is a difference in the precision and accuracy for both the iodine concentration and the ascorbic acid obtained per amount of the whole fruit taken for the experiment. In the case of large burets lower value of iodine concentration and the ascorbic acid content is obtained when compared to that of small burets and thus slightly smaller value of deviation is obtained. Normally it is assumed that small burets have high accuracy and precision because of their small diameter but using larger burets gives the expected precision and thus an error is produced in the deviations from the truth when subjected to F and T tests.

LABORATORY 10 DETERMINATION OF VITAMIN C CONCENTRATION 3. How many grams of (pure) vitamin C is contained in your unknown stock solution (Part A)? Hint: The solution is made in a 1-L bottle. 4. Consider the following titration: If 21.35 mL of 0.005 M iodine solution is needed to titrate a solution of commercial vitamin C tablet (500 mg) pre- pared in a 100-mL volumetric flask, then what is the mass (%) of vitamin C in the commercial tablet? 5....
Determination of Vitamin C Concentration by Redox Titration An alternative titration method for determining the concentration of vitamin C in a sample is to use an iodine solution. In this reaction iodine oxidizes the ascorbic acid to C&H&O 2. A 20.00 ml sample of a 1.00 mg/mL vitamin C solution is placed in a flask along with 1 mL of a 1% starch solution to serve as an indicator. A dilute solution of iodine is placed in a buret. A...

An experiment was planned to compare the mean time (in days) required to recover from a common cold for persons given a daily dose of 4 milligrams (mg) of vitamin C, μ2, versus those who were not given a vitamin supplement, μ1. Suppose that 31 adults were randomly selected for each treatment category and that the mean recovery times and standard deviations for the two groups were as follows. No Vitamin Supplement 4 mg Vitamin C Sample Size 31...
Consider this experiment: A random sample of size n1 = 16 is selected from a normal population with a mean of 75 and a standard deviation of 8. A second random sample of size n2 = 9 is taken from another normal population with an unknown mean and a standard deviation of 12. Assume the two samples are independent. Let x̄1 and x̄2 be the sample means. In each run of the experiment, you compare the two sample means by taking...
1 a) suggest an experiment/procedure you could use to find the concentration of NaCl within a single cell(use a potato cell as your example) b)based on what you know about diffusion, osmosis, and dialysis, what do you think a kidney dialysis machine is doing for a patient? c) what could you do to increase the rate at which sugar dissolves in water so that you can make sweet tea?
4. If the vitamin C tablet says that it contains 1000 mg of vitamin C, how much iodine solution would be needed? What is the percent DV for that tablet?
