Answer #1

For calculating forecast of the month August, we first have to calculate the forecast of month July.

We have, exponential smoothing, e = 0.8 and forecast for June = 164.

Formula for forecasting of a month(fm) :

= e * demand of previous month + (1 - e) * forecast of previous month.

Now fm for July = [ 0.8 * 165] + [ 0.2 * 164]

= 164.8.

Now fm for August = [0.8 * 178] + [ 0.2 * 164.8] = 175.36.

Hence the correct option is (b) 175.36
