Question

Recall that 40% of Americans have an associates degree or above. A group of 80 people have applied for a job (which does not list any educational restrictions) and you will be reviewing their applications What sampling distribution model would you use to model the probability of seeing various sample proportions of degree-holders in a group this size? a. b. Answer #1

a) Let \hat{p} denotes the sample proportion of Americans that have an associate degree or above.

\hat{p} \sim Normal(0.4,\frac{0.4*(1-0.4)}{80}) or \hat{p} \sim Normal(0.4,0.0547723^2)

b) P(\hat{p} \geq 0.5) = 1- P(\hat{p} \leq 0.5) =1- P(\frac{\hat{p}-0.4}{\sqrt{\frac{0.4*(1-0.4)}{80}}} \leq \frac{0.5-0.4}{\sqrt{\frac{0.4*(1-0.4)}{80}}})

\Rightarrow P(\hat{p} \geq 0.5) = 1- P(Z \leq \frac{0.5-0.4}{0.0547723})

\Rightarrow P(\hat{p} \geq 0.5) = 1- P(Z \leq \frac{0.1}{0.0547723})

\Rightarrow P(\hat{p} \geq 0.5) = 1- P(Z \leq 1.82574)

\Rightarrow P(\hat{p} \geq 0.5) = 1- \Phi(1.82574)

\Rightarrow P(\hat{p} \geq 0.5) = 1-0.966055 = 0.033945

\Rightarrow P(\hat{p} \geq 0.5) =0.033945

Although older Americans are most afraid of crime, it is young people who are more likely to be the actual victims of crime. It seems that older people are more cautious about the people with whom they associate. A national survey showed that 10% of all people ages 16-19 have been victims of crime.† At Jefferson High School, a random sample of n = 66 students (ages 16-19) showed that r = 9 had been victims of a crime. We conducted a comprehensive literature search on drones in conservation up to October 2nd 2018, in line with related studies [10,11,35]. All searches were done by the same person in English, mainly using Google Scholar. This was further complemented through reference harvesting, citation tracking, abstracts in conference programs, and author search, using Research Gate and Mendeley (see PRISMA Flowchart in Supplementary Figure S1 Checklist and list of studies reviewed in Table S1). We then removed duplicate and unrelated results. Finally,...
