Hi,

I think you could classified this as a problem of kinematics, as you have an object in movement and the questions asked are about its acceleration and the distance it travels.

(a) The acceleration of this object can be found as follows:

v = vo + at :::::: as the sled is at rest at the end, v = 0 , so ::::::::::::: a = - vo/t

a = - (282.5 m/s) / (1.4 s) = - 201.8 m/s2

Note: in this case we assumed a constant acceleration.

(b) The distance he travels can be calculated with:

x = vo*t + (1/2)at2 = (282.5 m/s)(1.4 s) + (1/2)(- 201.8 m/s2)(1.4 s)2 = 197.7 m
