The heat transfer behavior of a sample of opaque fluid is being investigated. A series of ultrasound transducers send sound waves through various portions of the sample, and the time it takes for the sound wave to travel through the sample is measured at each location. From this information, researchers are able to reconstruct a rough temperature field of the sample. The false-color image of the sample below is divided into three regions based on the measured sound wave transmission times. Assuming a uniform sample thickness, rank regions A, B, and C based on their temperatures, from highest to lowest.
