For both the Sn2 and Sn1 reaction conditions:

Structure | Rxn (Y/N) at room T° Rxn time | Rxn (Y/N) at increased T° Rxn time | Agreement with theory

a. Construct a table in landscape layout with the headings described above. The structure of the compound must be provided for each test. If a reaction occurs indicate if room temperature or increased temperature were the conditions necessary. If no reaction occurs at all under any conditions, then indicate only the reaction time and note that no reaction occurred. The last entry must be detailed discussion indicating if the results obtained during the laboratory agree or disagree with the generally accepted theories about substitution. Consider possible rearrangements, steric affects and leaving group effects.

b. Looking at the 1-haloalkanes which leaving group was better and do the experimental results confirm known theory.

c. In part 2 of the experiment, when 2-chlorobutane was reacted in ethanolic silver nitrate solution and then reacted in ethanolic silver nitrate with water, was there a difference in the reaction rate? Discuss why a difference would occur.

Please answer what you are able to. Thank you.

Bromine is a better leaving group since it is a weaker base than chlorine is. 2.   a. Why does benzyl chloride react under both SN1 and SN2 conditions?             Benzyl chloride is a primary alkyl halide, hence reactive under SN2 conditions.             The primary carbocation formed due to the departure of Cl- is stabilized by the pi electrons in the benzene ring.         b. 10. Write a one-page summary of the attached paper? INTRODUCTION Many problems can develop in activated sludge operation that adversely affect effluent quality with origins in the engineering, hydraulic and microbiological components of the process. The real "heart" of the activated sludge system is the development and maintenance of a mixed microbial culture (activated sludge) that treats wastewater and which can be managed. One definition of a wastewater treatment plant operator is a "bug farmer", one who controls the aeration...
