Validity is the degree of the measure of a employee selection method meaning what the method is suppose to measure whereas reliability is the consistency of the measure of the test method meaning how accurately the method is measured.

For selection, the candidate should possess certain skills that meet the job criteria and validity helps validate if the employer is testing the right skills needed. For example, testing mechanical skills for a mechanic job or testing cooking skills for a chef.

For test to be effective, the employer should test the skills correctly which should be consistent with the results. The selection criteria should assess the skillet with high reliability meaning saturating the test to get consistent results. For example, testing a homogeneou group leads to higher reliability as the group have similar candidates.
