What causes side loading in hydraulic cylinders.
How can it be minimized.
Hydraulic cylinders are made to handle high loads in rugged conditions. These get fall in permanent failure mainly because of side loads and rod bending.
Causes of side loading:
1) Mass or external force applys on the side of cylinder rods.
2) High potential side loading acts when the cylinder rod extends into it's max stroke length, especially for cylinders with long stroke length.
3) undersized rod cause side loads and tends to bend the rod.
Precautions to minimize the side loads:
* Minimize misalignment during extended and retracted points of cylinder rod.
* Ensure the rod is guiding properly with the supports.
* Insert the stopper to prevent the rod to extend completely.
* Use larger diameter rods.

A hydraulic pump can produce a pressure of 500kPa. A system with 4 cylinders must support a load of 125,000 pounds. What diameter must the cylinders be used go maintain this load (assume 1/4" increments) I started on the problem could someone tell me if it is right or wrong. If its wrong could you please explain why? 125,00016(cond) 500KPA P= F M² 125000 bS x 4.45N = 556250N Lo Force 500 haxlo00D0 - so9000 Pa Pressure 556.250N =11125 m²...

O D Side-by-Side The thermodynamics of vesicle loading: Primary and secondary active transport "Vesicle loading is another interesting application of thermodynamics. Think about it. How do neurons form these highly concentrated vesicles full of, say. Ach? It turns out that neurons use a two-step system. First, neurons use the Gibb's free energy from hydrolyzing ATP to pump H+ ions into the vesicle using an H+/ATPase. Given the provided information, and assuming the vesicular membrane potential is 20 mV (positive inside...
