Answer #1

Daily operations, as the name itself suggests is a process that is performed daily. It is repetitive in nature, however, projects are a one-time endeavor to create a unique product. It is not a routine exercise, unlike daily operations. Simply put, Projects are time-bound effort, with budget limitations, assigned resources for a fixed time and specific requirements detailed. The 5 characteristics that differentiate projects from daily operations are below:

1). Defined life span - Unlike daily operations there is a defined time frame within which a project should be closed.
2). A well-defined objective - The objectives are well defined in projects
3). Involves people from several disciplines - Unlike daily operations where tasks are completed by the same set of individuals, the project has different disciplines to complete the tasks assigned to them.
4). A Project life cycle - There are 4 stages of project life namely Defining, Planning, Executing and Closure.
5). Specific cost, time and performance requirement - These individual aspects of the project are well specified in documents such are SOW or Project charter.
