Answer #1

In the first case E-cadherin is affected by the new gene. The genes that govern this protein are mostly tumor supressor genes. But here we see,

The new allele has a lethal phenotype in its recessive condition and wild type in its heterozygote condition. But in case of a deletion the allele shows a worse scenario than lethality. Such a condition can be defined by a recessive lethal allele. This can be compared with that of sickle cell anaemia but in this case heterozygote has a different phenotype than wild type phenotype.

In the second case, the new gene has lethal homozygote at 28 degree celsius and no phenotype at 22 degree celcius so the gene is temperature sensitive. This is a conditional mutation that produces mutant phenotype at 28 degrees and null phenotype at 22 degrees.

With respect to genetics, ABO blood types are controlled by a single gene designated I, which has three alleles. The I A allele gives blood type A, I B gives blood type B, and i gives blood type O. The I A and I B alleles are codominant and i allele is recessive to both the I A and I B alleles. Aside from the I alleles, there are two other genes that when mutated affect ABO blood type inheritance....

A new gene is being investigated in fruit flies. The recessive allele of this gene (b) causes the wings to develop a blue color, while the dominant allele (b) permits wild-type colorless wings to develop. Preliminary studies indicate that this new gene is located on the X-chromosome. You decided to perform a two-point testcross to determine its position relative to the well-established garnet eyes gene (g). You cross a female heterozygous for both genes with a testcross male fly, and...
