Intrinsic proteins extrinsic proteins
Also known as embedded proteins or transmembrane proteins also known as peripheral membrane proteins
Embedded inside the membrane and span both the surfaces of the membrane present at the Periphery of the membrane either on the extracellular surface or towards the intracellular surface of the membrane
Involved in transportation of molecules from one surface of the membrane to the other surface involved in cell signalling
