Answer #1

Lets first know what the facts are about the popularity that we speak of android phones and then lets further base our opinions on the facts we discovered and furthermore predict how will it lead into the future on the basis of current trends that facts/statistics have showed us.

On the Basis of facts/reports taken by a popular web analytics company StatCounter ,android dominates the worlds enduser OS market by a market share of approx 37.9% while IOS has a market share of around 26%,and windows by 37.1% approx. These are figures containing all gadgets put together PC,Laptops,Mobiles,Tablets.End user market means how people access internet using any device they possess with no restriction to any type of device. How come android has such a high percentage even though it is not much popular in desktop operating systems and laptops??.This is because of the rise of mobiles and tablets compared to pC's and laptops since 2010.The rise of smartphones has led to decrease in sales of PC's and Laptops worldwide in the past decade.

So lets look at some more statistics, lets divide market share depending on the type of devices used.

If we look at mobile/handheld devices market alone, windows phones have less than 1% market share compared to IOS around 50% and android contributing the remaining market share(Around 40-45%).(These are reported by StatsCounter a web analystics company).

If we look at only PC's and laptops OS market share alone, that is where windows and IOS are dominating the world with almost over 90% of market share.Since Android is primarily been famous for handheld devices.

so the first part of your question which is "Do you also think that Android which is also an Open source operating system is gaining popularity "? is a sure YES.

Reason being the growth of mobile/handheld devices market has led to the gaining popularity of android phones and a decline in the usage of PC'S and laptops worldwide.

The fact to claim my above statement is this:Android phones had only 2.4% global market share in OS in 2013 whereas now it has around 37.9% global market share as pointed out by StatsCounter. So this shows that android has been gaining its popularity due to its strong mobile phone market base.

so your second part of your question "would android continue to gain popularity as well when compared to Windows and iOS"?Since it is in a future tense we cannot always be 100% sure of how it is going to be in the future,as any breakthrough in technology is possible any instant and industry experts are working all the time competing against each other.

So,one way to analyse this question is to base our opinion on seeing the current trends and how it has unfolded over the past few years and what is "the most likely outcome" in the near future.

On seeing the operating system trends since 2012,Linux Based operating systems has been gaining popularity and will continue to gain popularity over the years than its windows counterpart.Android phones are definitely gonna be popular in the future.

Having said that we will not see PC's declining in the future since it would be tedious for us to create spreadsheets or presentations in mobile phones or even read a long pdf file for that matter. But as long as people desire to have smartphones for its ease and simplicity, the future belongs to smartphones and its operating systems which in our case is dominated by android and once again a thumbs up to your second part of your question that android is gonna be popular in the near future. This is all we can predict about future but we cannot be 100% sure though.
