3D printing is already having an effect on the way that products are manufactured – the nature of the technology permits new ways of thinking in terms of the social, economic, environmental and security implications of the manufacturing process with universally favourable results.

Discuss at least four (4) global impacts of 3D printing.

As the word clearly suggests, 3D printing is a type of printing but it is not printing the material with random colors on a sheet of paper, but printing objects in a 3 Dimensional manner and turning things into reality. There are various 3D printing softwares such as autodesk maya and mudbox. 3D printers create objects by the way of slicing the objects into thin layers one over the another being an additive process. There are various ways in which 3D printing can help the world, few of them being:

• Save lives-recreate human organs : 3D bio printers are currently in use, although the organs produced by 3D printers are not capable of a transplant but the scientists are able to cartilage to bony tissues, artificial outer ear prototypes and polymer bones. Further tests of these organs can really help scientists to develope cure for various medical issues and bring a revolution in medical science.
• Eco friendly solutions : 3D printing is an eco friendly and sustainable alternatives as compared to other ways of doing things that available to us. It creats less waste overall. For example, D-Shape a company that 3D prints with sand and dust eventually returning back to their original compact stone stage.
• Target world hunger : Research is going on in NASA for developing a 3D printing machine to develope food with the help cartridge consisting of oil and powder. As unappealing as it sounds but 3D printed food might help us to target the global hunger index and bring down to a manageable limit. By creating food the 3D printing technology can be applied for a noble cause.
• Start an industrial revolution : 3D printing technology can help industries on larger scale as well as smaller scale. With the help of 3D printing technology we can develope machines that can perform different tasks in a time efficient manner rather that purchasing and installing multiple machines that do the production in a phased manner. With the increase in customised machinery we can see less outsourcing as the domestic companies can produce their goods themselves in a timely manner and can reduce the wait time.
