You are a sergeant in a medium-size police agency. Tyrone, a probationary police officer, has been assigned to you as a direct report. Your agency is currently understaffed and is experiencing severe budget constraints. For these reasons, the department is not planning to hire any officers for at least one year. Tyrone has completed basic pre-service and field training and is finishing the probationary officer phase of training in two weeks. Your commanding officer has asked you to review Tyrone’s performance and submit a report including your recommendations as to whether the agency should retain him.

Answer #1

At this time , i will recommend a positive notes so that he should be retained by the agency. It will be good for the understaffed agency. I will ask a detail report from the trainers, training instructors , institutions and other people assigned training course with this guy.

It will offer me some positive and negative feedback in detail. I will suggest management of the agency to motivate this new probationary officer to accept the challenges of the agency and establish some normal standards at the workplace too. On the basis of training and development feedback of the said people and institutions, i will recommend a positive performance management of the guy with detail expectations from this guy. I will also keep a meeting with most senior people and request them to decipher the positive aspects as well as negative ( Realistic Job Purview) sides of this challenging agency.
