Dr. Smith chose plain catgut over nylon sutures for his achillies lengthening surgery. Discuss the physiological effects of these suture materials
Catgut suture is a type of surgical suture that is naturally degraded by the body's own proteolytic enzymes.Absorption is complete by 90 days, and full tensile strength remains for at least 7 days. This eventual disintegration makes it good for use in rapidly healing tissues and in internal structures that cannot be re-accessed for suture removal.Catgut suture has high knot-pull tensile strength and good knot security due to special excellent handling features.Main advantage is that no foreign body is left permanently in the patient which could precipitate long term problems.
Nylon sutures are also known as polyamide sutures.Nylon sutures are monofilament sutures and are remarkably smooth, soft.Nylon sutures are non-absorbable sutures and possess excellent tensile strength.Nylon sutures are available in black colour. These sutures are infection resistant.Nylon sutures are widely used for general closure, skin and plastic surgery. They are usually not recommended for attachment of artificial prostheses in cardiovascular surgery. They also do not support infection and maintain tensile strength indefinitely in tissues. They have poor knot security.

Assign the ICD-10-CM codes to diagnoses and conditions and assign the CPT surgery codes and the appropriate HCPCS level II and CPT modifiers. Do not assign ICD-10-CM external cause codes. PREOPERATIVE DIAGNOSIS: left middle trigger finger. POSTOPERATIVE DIAGNOSIS: left middle trigger finger. OPERATION PERFORMED: tenolysis Under satisfactory IV block anesthesia, the patient was prepped and draped in the usual fashion. A traverse incision was made parallel to the distal palmar crease area overlying the middle finger, and the wound was...
Code the first operative report, include any CPT surgery code(s), anesthesia code(s), and any modifiers applicable. (20 points) Code the E&M code for the second office visit. 1.
