See differences below - Mitosis meiosis It is called as equational division because the number of chromosomes in daughter cel

Mitosis Meiosis
There is no pairing of chromosomes in this type of cell division. Homologous chromosomes pair with each other to exchange genetic material. The exchange of genetic material is referred to as recombination or crossing over.
It has only one cycle, the four stages are prophase, metaphase, anaphase and telophase.

It has two cycles, meiosis 1 and meiosis 2. Each cycle has four stages.

Meiosis one has prophase 1, metaphase 1, anaphase 1 and telophase 1.

Meiosis 2 has prophase 2, metaphase 2, anaphase 2 and telophase 2.
