Carotid arteries are the major blood vessels that deliver blood to our brain. One carotid artery is present on each side of your neck. When you put your hands on your neck to detect a pulse, you’re feeling one of your carotid arteries.

Carotid artery disease happens when a blockage in one or both of these arteries reduces the amount of blood flow into our brain. This can lead to a stroke. This blockage may be due to the presence of plaques of cholesterol in arteries, which block blood flow.

Our neurons once formed go into G0 phase of cell cycle or resting phase. Since there are no stem cells of neurons therefore once damaged, they cannot be repaired leading to permanent damage in the spinal cord.
