An industrial engineer created a simulation model of a workshop, to examine the impact of different scheduling rules. He observed the behavior of the system with the currently used scheduling rule to test the validity of the model. According to the records kept in previous years, the average number of jobs released from the system in one day is 22.5. The industrial engineer made 7 replications (repeats) for 30 days and found the average output amount as a result of the simulation as follows: 18.9 22.0 19.4 22.1 19.8 21.9 20.2 According to these data, interpret the result you found by testing whether the model established by the industrial engineer reflects the real system = 0.05 significance level. Do you have any advice to this industrial engineer based on the results you find, or what is it?

Answer #1

The hypothesis being tested is:

H0: µ = 22.5

Ha: µ ≠ 22.5

22.5000 hypothesized value
20.6143 mean Data
1.3558 std. dev.
0.5124 std. error
7 n
6 df
-3.680 t
.0103 p-value (two-tailed)

The p-value is 0.0103.

Since the p-value (0.0103) is less than the significance level (0.05), we can reject the null hypothesis.

Therefore, we can conclude that the average number of jobs released from the system in one day is different from 22.5.

Thus, the output is not consistent with the system behaviour.

    5. (20 pts) A simulation model of a job shop was developed to investigate different scheduling rules. To validate the model, the scheduling rule currently used was incorporated into the model and the resulting output was compared against observed system behaviour. By searching the previous years database records, it was estimated that the average number of jobs in the shop was 22.5 on a given day. Seven independent replications of the model were run, each of 30 days' duration. with...
