Love canal tragedy is one of the famous environmental tragedy in USA near Niagara falls.It is coming under the category of groundwater pollution.Love canal is named after a large ditch in 1890's for hydroelectric power and it become useless for decades.In 1940's U.S army used love canal for dumping the wastes from World War 2.In 1942 one chemical company purchased the land and they used the land for putting hazardous wastes.They covered around 21000 tons of dangerous chemicals under the land.

These chemicals started spreading to people basements,trees and gardens are began to die.The local residents are affected with major health issues including birth defects and chromosome damage and this tragedy is became the perfect example of improperly stored chemical wastes.For reducing this state of emergency the state government created a federal program which is designed to clean up the hazardous chemical sites in USA.By collecting the necessary funds, the Federal Emergency Management Association is able to help thousands of famililies to relocate from the area and this tragedy leads to the implementation of different environment laws.These laws powering to intelligent and effective methods to avoid these kind of environmental risks.
