8) North West is the direction of the pacific plate motion.

9) The bend between Hawaiian- Emperor islands is very interesting thing, it is around 60 degree bend. The bend took place at around 47 MY ago. There are two concepts behind the bending.

One is due to the change in Pacific plate motion at that time.

Second one is the shifting of the hot-spot. The hot-spot have shifted towards the south. That's why the bending occurred. Previously the concept was there the hot-spots are rigid and don't change it's position. But now new concept came that they can be change their position if their conduit mantle plume is deflected by convection current.
